Switzerland reached their first quarter-final since 1954 after they beat Colombia 4-3 on penalties after the game finished 0-0 in Vancouver. Before Tuesday's victory the European side had reached the round-of-16 at the last three World Cups, but heroics from goalkeeper Gregor Kobel ended that run and helped them reach this stage for the first time in 72 years
